In 1986 British Rail introduced the dramatically different Executive livery onto their high speed InterCity services bringing a totally fresh look to the whole of the High Speed Train fleet and service. During the early days of this livery it was quite common to see the trains made up of coaches in both in the new Executive livery and the older BR blue. Operating a service from the North East of England to London, the High Speed Train units carrying the livery inspired by the icons of American train travel as well as Hollywood of the Fifties, turn admiring heads when either stationary or while powering along the main line.
